Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the hidden lair, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the party enter areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Planners parties.
Viewers can anticipate learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
