The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

As any prominent prize-giving event approaches, there’s always an outcry to include of new categories to honor unsung work and delight the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession within the realm of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types actually cover many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely in 2014
  • Another creative title missed out in 2019
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles globally and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
