The deal values the Mercedes team at £4.6 billion – an unprecedented figure for a Formula 1 squad – following McLaren was appraised at £3.5 billion in an adjustment to corporate structure last September. The Austrian executive, who owns one-third of Mercedes F1, plans to divest a stake approximately 5%. Wolff, aged 53 will remain as team boss and chief executive officer should the deal proceed. Shareholder Structure Remaining partners in the team are Mercedes-Benz and chemicals giant Ineos Group, who each also own a third of the company. A Mercedes spokesperson said: "We are providing no official statement on the matter. The management structure of the team stays unchanged, and each shareholder are dedicated to continued achievements of Mercedes-Benz in Formula One." Financial Increase This arrangement would represent a substantial rise in worth of the Mercedes team after Ineos acquired its stake for £208 million in 2022. This surge demonstrates the expansion in market values of F1 teams recently as a consequence of the increasing appeal of Formula 1 around the world. This was also seen in the success of the F1 movie featuring Hollywood star Brad Pitt, which debuted in summer 2023 and earned over $630m (£458m) at cinemas worldwide. The film represents the actor's top-grossing film and the highest-earning sports film to date. Current Standings Mercedes are second in the constructors' championship, trailing McLaren Racing, with three Grands Prix remaining in the current championship. Their lead driver British driver George Russell has won 2 of the 21 races this year and is fourth in the drivers' championship behind McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen. The team won a record eight consecutive team titles and seven driver championships, six won by Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg, between 2014 and 2021.
